S.G. Rout Firewood is a family-run business based in Winfarthing, near Diss, Norfolk. Founded by Syd Rout in 2015, we have built a strong reputation for supplying quality firewood with a reliable, friendly and personal service.
Syd began the business as a part time enterprise, alongside his full time farming and forestry work. Syd has organically grown the business and was able to commit to the business full time in 2022. Alongside the day to day management of the business, Syd can also usually found in the forest with his chainsaw, hand cutting timber and managing woodlands.
Victoria joined in February 2025. Victoria assists Syd with behind the scenes management of the business, whilst also delivering firewood, operating the digger in the forest alongside the hand cutters, or operating the forwarder to extract and stack timber.
George joined the business in April 2026 and is predominantly operating the log processor, keeping our stocks maintained and delivering firewood to customers.
Our hardwoods include oak, ash, beech, silver birch, sweet chestnut and cherry, offering a longer-lasting burn. Our conifer and pine softwoods provide a more affordable, quicker-burning option.
We deliver to homes, businesses, campsites and other suppliers for wood burners, stoves and open fires.
Orders welcome all year round.

The firewood is delivered loose and tipped from our vehicle to a site of your choice. We do not sell our firewood in builders bags due to sustainability and cost.
Generally, we ask for payment upon delivery. Payment can be made via cash, cheque or bank transfer.
We are very happy to offer a stacking service for an additional charge of £35 (per m3) We will stack the firewood neatly into your log shed.
Our firewood is naturally seasoned and ready to burn. We do not kiln dry our firewood as we believe that naturally seasoned firewood is more sustainable relying on our abundant sun and wind, rather than using energy intensive kilns, resulting in lower environmental impact and lower costs.
All of our seasoned firewood is sold below 20% moisture, ensuring our wood is ready to burn.
Hardwood mostly comprises of Ash with some Beech, Cherry, Alder, Oak and Silver Birch. Current stock depends on which local woodlands we have been sourcing timber from.
Most of our customers generally purchase 2m3 to begin with which costs £260, with free delivery within 20 miles. Whilst we are not the cheapest firewood supplier in Norfolk, we offer good quality, seasoned firewood, which is locally sourced and ready to burn.
Most of our firewood is sourced from woodlands within 30 miles of us.
Through our forestry work, we manage woodlands on local farms and estates. Our thinning works involve removing dead, dying, or dangerous trees to allow the healthy trees to thrive, increase sunlight, and encourage natural regeneration. This ensures our woodlands remain healthy and resilient whilst providing a sustainable source of heating.
